On a gorgeous sunny August Friday, we were out at Ness Botanic Gardens filming for Vicki & Kris’s small, intimate wedding. This was the first time we had filmed at Ness and what an amazing venue it was as well, the gardens were in full bloom and make for a spectacular backdrop. Vicki has left us a fantastic review over on our Facebook page (and also posted above) and you can view the trailer for the wedding below.
We also asked Vicki a few questions about her and Kris, to get to know a bit more about the day and couple.
1. How did you meet? I used to work behind the bar at Maloney’s on King Street in wigan, Kris had just moved to Wigan to manage Jumpin Jaks that was next door. A mutual friend invited him on a night out and that’s how we met – I was 18 and he was 22, been together 12 years.
2. Who proposed, when and where? He proposed when we were on holiday in Rome. We went to see the Colosseum at night when it was all lit up, he got the ring out and forgot to ask so I was stood there waiting for him to ask me to marry him! As soon as I said yes a man selling roses came over asking if we were married and told him we’d literally that minute gotten engaged – he started saying oh here here have this rose free free……then turned to Kris and said under his breathe “that’s 3 euros mate”!!
3. Why did you choose Ness Botanic Gardens for your wedding? My mum actually sent me the link to Ness Gardens when we were looking for venues. We didn’t really want a bog standard hotel wedding, when we went to view the gardens at a wedding fair they were having we just fell in love with it. That was in February as well so we knew it would be stunning during the summer. Right from the start we said we wanted something small, relaxed that we could actually enjoy instead of making small talk all night with people we hadn’t seen in 6 years and we knew Ness would be perfect.

Vicki also runs a small cake company, Bella’s Little Cakery and made her own wedding cake! I asked Vicki just to tell me how she got into that.
Regarding Bella’s: I actually fell into cakes by accident. It was our eldest daughters Christening and money was tight so I decided to make the cake myself. Given my lack of baking skills it was a bit of a risk, it had become a running joke in our house how bad my baking was – cookies that came out like scones, rock hard cakes and a peach cobbler that came out resembling sausage meat! I practised and practised and watched so many videos and tutorials, in the end came out with something I was really proud of at the time. Of course now I look back at it and cringe! I loved it so much I started making cakes for family and friends, then after a while people started asking if I took orders and sure enough Bella’s Little Cakery was born. Over the past 5 years I’ve put a lot of time into refining my skills and taking my creations to the next level, I love what I do and the best part is seeing the looks on peoples faces when they see their orders…..getting to snack on cake scraps comes a close second!
Perhaps we shall see Vicki on Great British Bake Off in the future 🙂
