Rebecca & Victor met at Oxford University in 2009 – Rebecca was two years ahead of Victor and his college Grandma! They were friends for a while before starting to date, and only became an official couple in September 2013 after Victor took Rebecca for a romantic dinner date at one of the Shard’s restaurants.
Victor proposed to Rebecca on a beach in Florida on 6 July 2016 just after sunset – he had surprised Rebecca with tickets to Florida to visit her family holiday home and go to Disney world but wanted to propose in a private setting, so he snuck prosecco and some deck chairs into the back of the car when he suggested they go for a walk on the beach for sunset on their last night and got down on one knee by the sea just before it went dark.
The couple originally planned an elopement abroad but eventually settled on the Quay Hotel because of the sentimental connection for us both – the hotel is near to Rebecca’s parents’ home and we had both previously attended a charity ball in the same venue space with an American theme on 4 July 2015, almost exactly a year before the day we got engaged in America itself!
The couples first date… Rebecca was about to go travelling around India and Asia for 3 months and so both of them wanted to have an official first date before Rebecca left. Going for a burger in Soho and then on for drinks in a small bar which sells pitchers of beer called Cafe Boheme where they talked until closing. The next date wasn’t until 2 months later when Rebecca came home from travelling for just a 1 week break!
